Railways can be attributed to the success of the humankind. Quite evidently, railways are considered to be the symbol of progress and development, after all, the industrial era caught pace because of this machine transporting heavy goods from one place to another at breakneck speeds in times when it was considered unimaginable.

The Indian Railway branches over 60,000 kilometres, with over 8000 stations with over 1 lakh kilometres of tracks laid down. This makes Indian railways the most elaborate railway networks around the world.

Top recruiters in the railway sector
Essentially, the railway recruitment is the fundamental duty of the Railway Recruitment Control Board. All recruitments all over the country are looked after by this department.
This department was set up by the Ministry of Railways in 1998.
To decentralise the process, the Railway Recruitment Boards have organisations set up under the Government of India. These are called boards and till date there are 21 boards situated in different parts of India.
Job Prospects in the Indian Railway
The Indian Railways functions at various levels across the country. There are several personnel in charge of the multifarious aspects that make running trains to and fro, day in and out possible.
Some of the most commonly known job prospects in the Railway sector are Service Officers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Store service, Account service, Signal Engineers and Railway Protection Force too.
If you are someone with a medical degree, you can also enrol yourself for the IRMS Medical Service. Mechanical engineers also can find a spot for themselves when it comes to constructing new railway stations and planning new track routes, bridges, tunnels, etc.
A degree in hotel management and hospitality would come in handy if you apply for pantry supervisors, food quality analysts, etc.
There are also positions like station masters, engine drivers, assistant drivers, yardmasters, motormen, guards and mechanical inspectors that smoothen the entire journey of trains all across the nation.
To make sure there are railway rules maintained, there are ticket collectors, railway maintenance workers, railway police engaged at all times.
Eligibility criteria
The most basic degree requirement for a job in the railway sector is graduating successfully from your 10+2s. Depending on which sector of the railways you really wish to be a part of, the specification for educational qualification changes.
For a cadre size job, you would ideally need Undergrad from Central or state university or a distance degree from a government recognized institution. Age limit should range between 21 and 32 years.
For Technical positions, a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or MSc in Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio, Physics or Radio Engineering should do. Age limit for these positions would also be from 21 to 32 years.
